About the project

A practical starting point for typography choices

PickAFont combines a simple suggestion tool with human-written guidance for designers, students, founders and makers.

Who is behind PickAFont?

PickAFont.org is created by Art and the City, an independent design education studio in Amsterdam. Our work connects creative practice with accessible explanations of design, AI and visual strategy.

The tool is meant to shorten the blank-page phase. It turns a project type and visual tone into a small set of Google Fonts, then explains why each direction may fit and what to pair it with. It does not replace a designer, user testing, licensing checks or brand research.

How suggestions are produced

The current tool uses a curated collection of font directions. Each tone maps to a deliberately limited shortlist with written usage notes. User descriptions personalise the context shown with the results; they are not published as articles and do not become editorial recommendations.

Our editorial aim

Our guides focus on decisions a reader can apply: defining font roles, testing real words, checking responsive layouts and protecting readability. We prefer useful limits and trade-offs over claims that one typeface is universally “best”.

Corrections and contact

If you notice an error, broken link or unclear recommendation, contact Art and the City through the contact page. Include the PickAFont page and the sentence or feature concerned so we can review it.
